The milking barn at Ed Crossland's in Mount Savage, Maryland partially collapsed on Saturday due to an unusually heavy snowfall. The ceiling fell and came to rest on the stall partitions on one end of the barn, and all 22 cows were able to be cut out of the stalls as they were laying down at the time. Friends and neighbors quickly worked to allow the 35 cow herd to be milked with bucket milkers Saturday night. By Sunday, most of the cows were moved to neighboring farms. The collapsed occurred at the normal feeding hour, but Rodney Rankin, herdsman, was delayed due to the weather. The Crossland and Rankin families are very thankful that no one was hurt, the cattle are alright and feel very blessed for their many friends, family members and neighbors that came to help within a few minutes, despite most being snowed in.
