About the Farm

The roots of Raylore Farm began over 100 years ago in rural Hutchinson, Minn. With some of the most fertile land in the state, the Olson family dairy farm has thrived for generations. Registered Holsteins have always been part of that success with black and whites grazing the farm's lush pastures and neatly-wooded landscape for over 75 years. Raymond and Frances Olson and their son, Loren, started the Raylore prefix in the late '50s after obtaining the farm from Raymond's father, Andrew, and his wife Sophie.

After meeting his wife Laura in the State Fair dairy barn, Loren took reigns of the farm he operates today with Laura who also is a family physician in a neighboring rural community. The couple has raised four children on the farm who are all active in the dairy business. Their oldest, Sarah is married to Kelly Schmidt and lives in New Ulm, Minn., with daughters Aubree and Kate. Sarah worked for Holstein World in the Online Services Department for over five years and is currently the Communications Director at Associated Milk Producers Inc. in Minn. Kelly is employed as a Livestock Specialist for Land O’Lakes Purina Feed.  Luke, the second child and only son like his Dad, is married to Tanya. Luke works for Semex USA and does sales and mating in the upper Midwest while Tanya is in her final year of vet school at the University of Minnesota. Daughter Lana resides in St. Paul, Minn., and is a Public Relations Account Representative for Broadhead Co. The youngest, Elizabeth, is a senior at the University of Minnesota where she is majoring in Animal Science and Applied Economics.

The Olson family has been active in the Minnesota Holstein Association as long as any of them can remember. Loren has served as president of the state association and a delegate to nearly 20 National Holstein Conventions. The entire family jokes that their only "real" family vacations as young kids were cross-country road trips to conventions. Sarah, Luke, and Lana each served a term as President of the state Junior Association. Elizabeth most recently served on the National Junior Advisory Committee. All four have represented Minnesota on the national level as a DJM finalist.

In 2010, Elizabeth kept quite busy serving as the 56th Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Minnesota's official goodwill ambassador for the dairy industry. Sarah was also Princess Kay in 2002 and Lana was a finalist in 2006. Loren and Laura are proud to be owners of three butter heads as a result of their dairy princess daughters. Three 90-pound sculptures are found in their freezers - one of each daughter.
