 Leo, Karen, Emily and Adam Hurtgen with
Hurtgenlea Dante Marissa and Yursden Hrtgen Carabeth-Red Hurtgenlea Holsteins was established in 1980 when we bought 7 cows (2 registered) and began renting a 140 acre farm in Elkhorn, WI. The farm was purchased in 1983. Our three children Leah, Adam and Emily showed cattle through 4-H and the Junior Holstein Association. Adam became a partner at Hurtgenlea in 2004 and a 120 cow free stall barn was built. Today Hurtgenlea consists of 100 milking and 200 total Registered Holsteins with 10 EX, 39VG, 31GP and 4G. We have just completed building a double 8 milking parlor, and today the herd consists of 26 animals related to Yursden Kite Caramac-Red, the 2007 International Red Cow of the Year and 40 animals related to Hurtgenlea Dante Marissa. The goal at Hurtgenlea is to strive for a balance of type and production with our motto "Quality Milk from Quality Cows".The barn is just about complete and we're excited to turn the cows loose!
