Futurehart Holstein Farm is a 700 acre, 60 cow Registered Holstein dairy farm operated by David & Janet Joachim. The farm is located one mile west of Waverly, IA on Hwy 3. The Joachim’s children, Amy, Emily & John, have been active in Junior Holstein activities.

Futurehart has exhibited cattle at the county, state and national level. They have received 1 All-American Nomination, 1 Junior All-American Nomination, 5 All-Iowa, 1 Reserve All-Iowa, 16 Jr. All-Iowa and 13 Reserve Jr. All-Iowa awards. To date, they have bred 31 Excellent cows, 4 Gold Medal Dams and 8 Dams of Merit. Five cows have produced 200,000 lbs of milk and 62 cows have records over 100,000 lbs of milk.

The herd is housed in a tie stall barn that was remodeled with an addition in 1996. The barn features include mattresses, chopped straw bedding and tunnel ventilation. A one group TMR is fed to the milking herd using a TMR wagon and electric feed cart. The current RHA of Futurehart Holsteins is 24,279M 3.4% 848F 3.0% 727P and the BAA is 108.6 with 9 Excellents, 27 Very Goods and 19 Good Plus.

Futurehart Holsteins has received Progressive Breeder Registry distinction 11 times and won the Progressive Genetics Herd award for 15 years. Brood cows that transmit high production along with sound udder attachments and the strength to last are the foundation of their breeding program. In 2001, Futurehart was very involved in the National Holstein Convention and hosted a tour to their farm. For their contributions to dairying, David and Janet were honored by the Iowa State Dairy Science Club and received the 2006 Honorary Membership Award.

David, Janet, Emily, Brian, Amy & John

David is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Dairy Science. He & Janet were married in 1973 and then purchased the farm from his parents’ estate. David has served on the church council, school board, DHIA and Farmer’s Co-op boards, as well as serving as President of the Iowa Holstein Association. Janet has served on the state dairy princess board, IA Holstein board, and has served as the President of the IA Holstein Auxiliary. They love to visit dairy farms, travel and golf in their spare time.

Amy graduated from Iowa State and then attended Pacific University - College of Optometry. She received the Presidents’ Award for academic excellence and service. She is currently an Optometrist in Hutchinson, MN at the Shopko Optical Center.

Emily recently received her Masters in the Arts of Education. Her undergraduate work was done at Central College in Pella, IA, were she graduated with Honors in Elementary Education. On June 2, 2001 she married Brian Ryherd. Brian is a computer programmer. They live in Winsted, MN.

John graduated from Central College with degrees in Math and Computer Science. While there, he played basketball for the school. He is currently teaching Math and coaching junior high basketball in New Hampton, IA.
